Social Secretary Phil Timm sent in this report…
Hi All
It is just over a month since I was appointed as social secretary, and I am pleased to report that the second event of my tenure went well this evening.
We had a small group of 12 including players and some family members who all enjoyed a memorable evening of wine tasting with selected food accompaniments. I must compliment ‘The Tasting Barn’ (located in Holme Grange) on their Wine & Food tasting kit. There were a few who had previously expressed some reservations about the DIY nature of the proceedings. However, one or two club members gave brave cameo performances, shamelessly impersonating genuine wine buffs, to ensure a most entertaining evening. A surprise appearance of one of Napoleon’s Grande Armee to introduce the French wines added to the fun, although he was most offended to learn that the Brie was, in fact, from Somerset! It is fair to say that everyone agreed the Tasting Barn experts’ wine and food pairing combinations worked really well.
This was “Wine tasting Part 1, Old World Tasting Case”. I am happy to report that all those attending today are looking forward to “Part 2, The New World”.
Phil
PS: I’m pleased to report that everyone who attended got home in time to watch Emma Raducanu’s epic win in the US Open Ladies’ Final!
