As in all sports clubs run by volunteers, we are very grateful when members take on a role involving the running of the club but, inevitably, members’ circumstances change and we find ourselves looking for new members to take on some of these roles. We have already highlighted the need for a Club Chairman, Richard having resigned from the post last AGM, partly in order to focus his spare time on chairing the New Clubhouse sub-committee. Mike Smith, as Club Secretary is currently having to act as Chairman, albeit reluctantly, as he feels he has neither the time nor the energy or skill for the role.
Mixed Doubles Team Organiser
Last month, we called for a volunteer to take over the organisation of the Mixed Doubles Teams from Alison, who is finding her role as Ladies’ Captain and her involvement with her Ladies’ Tennis Afternoon initiative quite enough along with her family and work commitments.
Steve Stow is the latest casualty who has found he is unable to continue in his role as Grounds Manager due to work commitments. Steve has done an excellent job over the past few years including organising the resurfacing and repainting of the courts so we are very grateful for his contribution in ensuring we have 4 courts which have never been in such good condition and making sure nets, fences, path lights, etc. are kept up to scratch.
Mark Callaghan has temporarily taken on responsibility for ensuring maintenance issues get addressed but he will need volunteers from the members as he admits he doesn’t possess the skills to take on most of the jobs himself.

We will start to compile a list of maintenance items which will be made public in due course so. if you see something there which you think you can help with, please contact Mark.
If you are willing to take on the Ground Manager role, please contact Mark or any other any member of the committee. This comes with a place on the committee, although Steve didn’t feel he had time to take this up as well so it’s up to you. However, it’s helpful to have the Grounds Manager on the committee and, of course, any committee member has influence over the way the club is run.
With the new clubhouse close to completion, we’ll have our own venue for social events both tennis-related and non-tennis-related. Having the facilities next to the courts will make it much easier to run more events such as barbecues alongside the tennis so we will need someone prepared to take the lead on this and get a small sub-committee together ready for the summer.
