Ladies 1 followed up their point away at Ascot in the first round with a 4-0 victory at home against Wokingham 3 in Division 4 last Saturday. Jenny Sheppard followed up a decisive 6-0 6-3 win over Gwen Barrett & Elaine Mowbray with an even more emphatic 6-1 6-1 win against Wendy McLaren & Janet Spence. Emma Knowles & Pauline Snell found it a bit harder in their first match together but they still won both of their rubbers in straight sets, winning 6-4 7-5 against McLaren & Spence and 6-3 7-5 against Barrett & Mowbray.
In Division 8 away against BCS 2, Ladies 2 came up against a strong home team and lost 0-4. Wendy Miles & Annie Atkins were well beaten by Jane Hunt & Sarah Quant 6-1 6-1 while Charlotte Badarello & Kristina Hani-Elaoud were losing 6-2 6-1 against Susan Page & Sheena Ronan. Badarello & Hani-Elouad could do no better against Hunt & Quant losing 6-0 6-2 but Miles & Atkins won the first set 6-2 against Page & Ronan to restore some pride for the team before losing the second 6-3 and then the deciding tie-break. Nevertheless, the team are 3rd in the division after their win in the first round and it’s encouraging to see new players in the team this season.
