Report from 10th September – by Alison Nicholson
13 ladies turned up on a very blustery Sunday (10 September), having been rained off the previous weekend. We managed to play for a couple of hours before the ever-strengthening wind and drizzle drove us indoors for a quick cup of tea, flapjack, and chat.
The format seems to be very successful, as it not only enables ladies to have a hit and not feel over-powered by men, which can be daunting, especially if you are new or returning to tennis after a break; it also provides an opportunity for ladies, who are considering joining the Club, to have a go in daylight hours and meet some more members.
So, there are 3 more afternoons planned. The courts are already booked, on Sunday 1 October, Saturday 4 November and Sunday 3 December, 2-4pm, though subject to weather and court availability, this might switch to 1-3pm on occasions.
The aim is to plan these afternoons to take place on the first weekend of the month, so everyone knows when to expect them; they vary between Saturday and Sunday as not everyone can make one of the days, and there are some matches on Saturday afternoons.
For more information about these afternoon sessions or if you are interested in playing in the Ladies teams, please go to our Contact Form and check the Ladies’ Tennis box.
