Ladies’ 1’s winning draw against Peppard on Saturday puts them top of Division 4, level with Bucklebury and Woolton Hill on 9 points after 4 rounds and with 3 matches to play. Also on 9 points are Marlow who have played 5 matches, which shows how competitive this division is.
Tina Stern and Emma Knowles had a good start, beating the visiting first pair, Helen Lee and Ellie Fry, 6-4 6-3. Jenny Sheppard and Ravinder Norman won the first set 6-3 against Louisa Bisson and Wendy Franklin but dropped the second 4-6 and missed out in the tie-break. However, the set they won gave the Crowthorne team a crucial advantage going into the second round. With Stern and Knowles cruising through 6-3 6-0 against Bisson and Franklin, Sheppard and Norman fought well for the extra point but lost 4-6 4-6 to Lee and Fry to make it a win on sets to Crowthorne.
With Bucklebury and Woolton Hill still to play as well as bottom club Wargrave, the battle for the two promotion places looks set to go to the last match of the season!
