With matches having to be rearranged due to them being scheduled for Bank Holiday Weekends, we finally reach the position where all 3 Men’s Doubles teams have played a match and all have collected 3 points.
In Division 4B, Men’s 1 visited Slough where they efficiently notched up a 4-0 victory without dropping a set. Matt Paxton & James Brennan beat Ryan Vittles & Robert Meah 6-4 6-4 while David Smith & John Phillips beat Awelewa Olumide & Andrew Wilson 6-2 7-5. In the second round, Smith & Phillips beat Vittles & Meah 6-4 6-2 and Paxton & Brennan finished the job with a 6-1 6-2 demolishing of Olumide & Wilson. The result puts them in 2nd place in the table behind Twyford 3 on games.
2In Division 4A, Men’s 2 faced Royal Berkshire 1 at Crowthorne and came away with 3 points following a 3-1 win. Jim Hawes & Anthony Hayes beat John Downie & Alex Deller 6-4 6-4 and Mark Lardner partnering Peter Lindholm, playing in a higher team than usual, shared the first two sets 6-3 5-7 against Grant Farrell & Mark Gould and won the final set on a tie-break to make the score 2-0. In the second round, Lardner & Lindholm were unable to repeat their first round performance against the visiting first pair but Hawes & Hayes completed the match by taking the deciding tie-break 10-7 after winning the first set 6-2 and dropping the second 4-6 aganst Farrell & Gould.
In Division 6B, the 3rds visited local rivals Wokingham to play their 4th team and their 4-0 win means they lead the table at this point in time. Richard McCully & Andy Stone took time shaking off the dust before they got fully into gear for their first match of the season, dropping their first set against Steven Payne & Martin Payler 5-7 before winning the second 6-1 and wrapping up the rubber by winning the deciding tie-break. Steve Stow & Mike Smith had very little trouble against Tony Allen & David Whitaker, winning 6-1 6-2 to give the Crows a 2-0 lead at the halfway point. In the second round, Stow & Smith won 6-3 6-1 and McCully & Stone won 6-2 6-4 to complete the win.
