Player Ratings

What is a Player Rating?

A player rating is a way of measuring your tennis ability so you can see how you rank against players from other clubs and also how you are improving. Your rating should also guide you to enter the right level of competitions. You will need a rating in order to compete in the AEGON team Tennis matches and LTA Ratings tournaments.

There are 20 rating bands. A rating of 1.1 is the highest level and 10.2 is the lowest. The ratings scale goes (from the lowest): 10.2, 10.1, 9.2, 9.1, 8.2, 8.1 and so on until 1.2 and finally 1.1.  A junior start rating is 10.2 and an adult start rating is 9.2.

When can your rating change?

You have the opportunity to increase your rating 4 times a year. Your new rating will depend on the results of matches during the previous three or six months.
Results used to increase your rating in the mid season review will also be used during the end of season review. This is because results from the whole 6 months will be taken into account based on your rating at the time of the ratings run.

Eligibility for matches

You need to be a British Tennis Member with a player rating in order to compete in AEGON team Tennis matches. ALSO, please note that, from 2011 you need to be a British Tennis Member to compete in the Berkshire Doubles Leagues and Veterans Leagues.

In the lists of Club Members in the Members' Area, BT indicates a Bristish Tennis member. There's also a list of British Tennis members together with their rating if they have one.

The information below shows what is expected from a player with a particular rating. If you are not happy with your rating, you may get it changed by sending in a ratings form(see below).

Here is a summary of the LTA Ratings levels. It also provides conversion from the International Tennis Number (ITN) to the GB ratings scheme.

The ITN rating link gives more details of what is expected from a player in terms of stroke production and court craft in order to achieve a particular ITN rating.

If you are a member of British Tennis and wish to update your rating then you can download a ratings form and either print it and send it to the address on the form or email a scanned copy of the form to the LTA Competition Services.

If there is no BT against your name in the members' list, please contact the administrator with your details including British Tennis Membership number.

If you are a British Tennis Member but are registered in another county, please go to the LTA Website to update your details; this may mean simply changing your registered club to Crowthorne or adding it to a list if you are a member of more than one club.
