Handicap Singles Final

The postponed Handicap Singles Final between Shaun Hewitt and Simon Usher was played on Saturday morning and, like the doubles final two weeks earlier, was a very close match.

Shaun Hewitt & Simon Usher

Shaun had the advantage of a +5 handicap and he quickly went into the lead, taking the first game 12-5.  Simon had to battle hard to level the score with a 12-9 second game but Shaun then looked as though his handicap advantage was starting to tell, taking the next three games 12-7, 12-4 and 12-6, before Simon stemmed the tide with a 12-7 win in the 6th game.  A third game for Simon with the closest of scores, 12-11, kept him in the match and he then levelled the match at 4 games all by winning the eighth game 12-10.  In the final game, Shaun led 11-4 only for Simon to save the 8 match points and win his first to take the game 12-11 and the match 5-4.

Congratulations to Simon and commiserations to Shaun.  Two finals won by the smallest margins and we await the final of the Veterans Doubles with eager anticipation!
