Baptism of Fire for Mixed 3 against Ascot

Following the club’s coaching offer to encourage male members to play in the Mixed Doubles teams, Andrew Morrison and Andy Lewis stepped up to the plate and, partnering the experienced Jenny Partridge and Annie Atkins respectively, found themselves representing Crowthorne 3 in Division 6 of the Berkshire Mixed Doubles League against Royal Ascot 1.   The Ascot team were relegated from Division 5 last season having not completed their fixtures but clearly do not belong in this division when they have their top players available.

Although we have to report that our team won 8 games to their opponents’ 48, looking on the bright side, this was 1 more than their opponents in the first round, RSF 2, who won just 7.  The RSF team, by the way, included Chris Carter, winner of the Crowthorne TC Men’s Singles and Doubles titles in 1980.  No “spring chicken” clearly but also no slouch on the tennis court either!

The good news is that our two debutants enjoyed the experience despite the score and we hope they will find matches somewhat easier in the future.
