Jenny plays through the pain in Mixed Doubles Final

The Mixed Doubles Final which was postponed from last September was played on Wednesday night between Jenny Sheppard & Dom Evan-Hart, the first seeds,  and Ravinder Norman & David Smith, who were seeded second.

In a close match, Ravinder & David took the first set 7-5 but Jenny & Dom came back strongly to win the second 6-4. However, Ravinder & David surged through in the final set 6-0 to take the title.

Jenny then revealed that she was struggling with a painful rib which was cracked or badly bruised in a fall in the first League Match of the summer against Cholsey.

In this match, Lorraine Fowler & Tina Stern had lost 3-6 3-6 against Tina Stirling & Pauline Loilier, but with Ravinder Norman & Jenny Sheppard winning 6-1 6-1 against the visiting second pair Jennifer Robson & Millie May and Fowler & Stern also winning 6-3 6-1 against the same pair, it looked odds on for a win on games for Crowthorne.

However, Sheppard’s fall during the first round meant that she and Norman had to concede their second match love and love which, unbelievably made the score dead level down to games.  With the resulting deciding tie-break shoot-out going to Cholsey, Crowthorne had to be satisfied with 1 point instead of 2.
